2017 SCORES CUP FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When and where is the 2017 SCORES Cup?
The 2017 SCORES Cup will take place on Sunday, July 9th at the Stubhub Center's LA Galaxy Practice Fields, located at 18400 S Avalon Blvd, Carson, CA 90746. Check-in begins at 9:00am. All players MUST sign the online waiver or in-person waiver before playing.

Who is America SCORES LA?
America SCORES LA is a nonprofit that serves over 400 underserved youth in the Culver City and Palms public schools daily through a powerful and life-changing soccer, creative writing and service-learning program.

Where can I find the game schedule?
Your captain should provide you a copy of the game schedule and we will also have it posted on the website prior to the Cup.

Are shinguards mandatory?
YES. We will not be checking before each game, but the refs will have full discretion to send a player off without shinguards. Player safety first. Please wear shinguards.

How many players are on the field?
Tournament games are 7v7 (includes goalkeeper). The minimum number of players you can have to start a game is 5 (4 field players and a goalie). Rosters can be a maximum of 20 players.

Is the tournament co-ed?
The LA Scores tournament is co-ed, however, your team may field whoever you want, however you want.

Does my team have to be 100% from my company?
Absolutely not. You can comprise your roster of employees, non-employees, friends, it is up to you who want to field under the banner of your company. Typically most corporate teams end up being comprised of 75% employees. We welcome teams to fill their roster as they best see fit.

How does the A & B & C division stack up? How do I know where my team fits best?
The A Division is very competitive and for teams with a roster of players who play frequently, such as weekend leagues or prior experience. If you play in any 7v7 league in the LA area you can expect the A Division to generally measure up to a similar competitive feel. The B Division is also competitive and for teams with a roster of players who play frequently and casually combined. The C Division is very casual and for lesser experienced teams. It's a great division to start in. Before the tourney we will speak with each captain to get a general idea of your teams experience and place you in the best division to maximize your team's FUN. Without question, each Division by the end of the day will have very competitive matches, but the journey there whether you make it or not, is where the true FUN is. TBD - we may add a D division this year based.

Can I invite friends and family?
YES! We simply ask each team to give us a ballpark headcount 1-week prior to the tourney so we can plan food accordingly. That said, we encourage as many spectators, banners, and anything else to help cheer your team on.

Is there parking available?
Yes and it's FREE. All cars should enter the Stubhub Center from the E. 184 Street main gate entrance. Depending on your starting field, free parking is available first come first serve in lots 10, 14, 15, 16, 4a, 4b. Please view the Stubhub Center Parking Map

What must the captain provide to register on the morning of the SCORES Cup?
Each captain must check-in at the main registration table at their designated field. Captains will be provided the jerseys for all players if they have not picked them up prior at the Captains Kick-off Friday, July 7th. We will also inform the captain who has not signed the online waiver, and will require each respective player to sign upon arrival.

What type of soccer gear should I bring?
Participants should bring shorts, socks, shin guards, and cleats or turf shoes, and extra game balls.
Goalies should come prepared with gloves and a shirt of a differentiating color.
America SCORES LA will provide team jerseys and game balls as well as pennies if necessary.

Will there be food?
America SCORES LA will provide a catered breakfast by Starbucks and lunch by Papa Johns & Panera. We will have a quantity to serve all players and will do our best to provide extras to spectators once all players have eaten. Typically, Starbucks has plenty for all! Captains should expect to inform LA Scores up to a week ahead of time on their estimated roster + spectator quantity so we can plan ahead.

Will there be water?
America SCORES LA will provide enough for all teams via drink stations around the perimeter of the fields. We still encourage participants to bring their own water bottles and snacks.

How does the on-field beer garden work? Is it complimentary?
Following lunch, and after the first teams are eliminated from the knockout stage brackets, we will open up an on-field beer garden in the corner of the Upper field. Players must have a form of ID to ensure they are of age. This is a complimentary service providing beer, soda, and water, hosted by America Scores LA for all teams. There will be no charge for consumption to players. We extend this service as a networking opportunity for all teams, and a zone to continue the LA Scores Cup camaraderie and spectate the final rounds of the tournament. All players are 100% at their own risk and liability for consumption.

Can people who won’t be playing come to watch the tournament?
Yes! Family members, friends, and other co-workers are welcome to come to the Cup and enjoy all aspects of it.

What if it rains?
In 13 years of the LA Scores Cup, it has never rained! Frankly, it is quite warm, bring sunscreen. However, the tournament will be played rain or shine. Please prepare accordingly. In the case of inclement weather that threatens player safety, players and attendees will be required to clear the fields.
